We describes a consistent and general approach to solve numerically the problem of the propagation of light in anisotropic media. Despite the efforts to deal with complicated matrix algebra, most authors have succeeded in implementing numerical codes, using restrictive conditions. The principal advantages of each existing method to solve this problem are considered. A unique protocol to treat all possible anisotropy is proposed.(Corresponding C# Software is available on request).
